Why Pregnancy Massage Is Worth Considering

By Maya Hartley · Founder & Massage Therapist · Updated September 2026

Growing a person is athletic work — and your body deserves a trained support team. Performed with the right positioning and pressure, pregnancy massage eases the aches of each trimester and helps you sleep, breathe, and rest.

Safety First: How We Position You

After the first trimester we never lay you flat on your back or belly. Instead, you rest on your side, cradled by body pillows with a cushion between the knees — a position most clients describe as the best sleep setup they have had in months. Pressure stays gentle to medium, and the abdomen is never massaged directly.

What It Relieves, Trimester by Trimester

In the second trimester, massage loosens the tightening lower back and round-ligament pull as your center of gravity shifts. By the third, the focus moves to swollen feet and ankles, aching hips, and the neck-and-shoulder tension of restless nights. Many clients tell us the weekly session becomes the anchor of their birth preparation.

  • Lower-back ache and hip tightness from postural change
  • Swelling in feet, ankles, and hands via gentle lymphatic strokes
  • Neck tension and headaches from broken sleep

When to Book — and When to Wait

We welcome clients from the second trimester onward with an uncomplicated pregnancy. First trimester? We recommend waiting until week 13. High-risk pregnancies, preeclampsia, or recent bleeding need your provider's written okay first — bring it and we will take wonderful care of you.

Therapist tip

"Side-lying with five pillows is not just safe — it is blissful. Most prenatal clients fall asleep within minutes, and we take that as the highest compliment."
